Alkira’s Work Training and Placements offer NDIS-funded training and support for people with disability. This service is designed to help participants achieve their employment goals, build job readiness skills, and grow in confidence on the path to open employment.
Whether you’re just starting to explore employment or looking to gain real-world work experience, we are here to support your journey to greater independence.
Delivered in either a group-based format or 1:1, this program can be accessed by both capacity building or core funding in your NDIS Plan. This service helps adults build community, life, and job-related skills in a supportive environment making it a great stepping stone.
At Alkira, we know that meaningful work is life-changing. Our Work Training and Placements program supports adults with intellectual disabilities to gain real-world job experience in roles that align with their interests, skills, and NDIS employment goals.
In-house at Alkira, we can give participants the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through AlkiraBiz, which includes our social enterprise cafe, coffee trailer, and op shop. These real work environments allow participants to explore hospitality and retail pathways before committing to long-term employment goals.
By trying different roles, participants build confidence, learn workplace expectations and make informed decisions about their future careers.
Alkira’s Work Training and Placements program is designed to support people in building practical, everyday skills that lead to greater independence and job readiness.
Participants practice resume writing, interview techniques, communicating effectively in the workplace, and present themselves appropriately for different job settings.
To access AlkiraBiz opportunities, participants are required to develop certain skills before commencement. We support participants in building these skills through tailored programs, helping them gain the confidence and abilities needed to successfully engage in AlkiraBiz activities.
We focus on important everyday skills like time management, organisation, money handling, and budgeting. Participants also practice travel training to help them navigate public transport independently.
Participants explore roles and responsibilities within a workplace, learn about employee rights, and develop teamwork and problem-solving skills. Regular visits to local businesses offer insight into different industries, real-world expectations and networking opportunities.
We can provide one-on-one support from our skilled team as participants begin their volunteer or work placements. We start by identifying each person’s strengths and areas for development, then provide hands-on guidance to build confidence and capacity. As skills grow, we gradually reduce support to foster greater independence and workplace readiness.
We take a flexible, person-centred approach — adapting support levels based on the individual and their chosen workplace. We support a wide range of different jobs.
