Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded service that provides help with daily tasks so you can live as independently as possible. At Alkira, we’ve been supporting people with intellectual disabilities in their homes since the 1960s — offering stable, safe and community-connected housing options across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
SIL support can be delivered in a home owned or run by Alkira, or in your own private rental or family home, depending on your needs and NDIS funding.
Our experienced and qualified staff provide daily support tailored to your goals, preferences, and routines — whether you live alone or in shared accommodation.
We provide support to develop independent living skills and maintain a safe, comfortable home. Our daily living support includes:

Living independently requires NDIS funding for SIL or SDA. If that’s not yet in your Plan, we may place you on our waitlist.
We assess your goals, daily living needs, and compatibility with potential housemates.
Before finalising placement, we’ll organise a friendly meeting with the current residents to ensure it’s a good fit.
