Alkira’s Momentum program is designed for school leavers and young adults looking to study at TAFE while receiving the support they need to succeed. With over 15 years of experience and more than 150 students supported, Alkira is proud to help young people achieve their educational and career goals in a way that’s both empowering and practical. There are three different certificates we support people to achieve.
Momentum covers a wide range of skills for school leavers with intellectual and other disabilities to increase independence. Alkira programs cover these parts of the curriculum:
Momentum is a 3 year program that is a combination of tertiary education (TAFE accredited units) and Alkira non-accredited programs in partnership with Box Hill Institute (RTO code: 4687). The program is delivered from Box Hill Institute’s Nelson Road Campus, alongside thousands of other students completing accredited courses.
As a part of Momentum, you can complete these three Certificate Courses.
This course is designed to support young adults to increase functional capacity through structured supports that build confidence, and readiness for everyday life and work‑related settings. The course focuses on developing essential workplace skills, including communication, use of technology, and personal management, within a consistent and supportive learning environment. Participants are supported to explore employment options and education pathways, while building practical skills that can be applied in daily life and future work contexts. Work‑related skill development is strengthened through supported work placements, enabling participants to apply learning in real‑world settings. This course runs for one year and supports participants to engage more confidently and independently in work and everyday life.
This course is designed to increase functional capacity by providing structured supports that build routine, confidence, and skills for participation in hospitality work and everyday life. It builds on skills developed in Certificate I courses and focuses on practical areas such as customer service, basic food and beverage preparation, hygiene, and workplace communication. The course also supports the development of personal management, teamwork, and communication skills, which are essential for both workplace and daily functioning. Participants gain hands‑on experience in serving food and beverages and learning basic hospitality operations through supported work placements and simulated work environments. Delivered over one year, the course supports participants to apply their skills confidently in real‑world settings and progress toward greater independence and workforce participation.
We partner with TAFE to ensure students are fully included in the classroom while receiving tailored support when and where they need it. Our team provides assistance both during class sessions and at other times on campus, helping students build confidence, stay engaged, and make the most of their learning experience.
While TAFE operates on a four-term schedule, Alkira continues to run programs during term breaks, allowing students to maintain social connections and a structured routine throughout the year. In addition to academic support, students also develop important life skills such as time management, self-advocacy, communication, and independence — all within a safe, familiar, and supportive environment.
We understand that friends joining together can reduce stress and anxiety when transitioning from secondary school to tertiary studies. We currently have a limited time offer that when you enrol with Momentum, you can enrol with friends and gain group perks.
Bring one friend and get a Buddy Pass Guarantee: students are placed in the same group/class for their first year.
Bring two friends and also get a VIP Cafe Card: Free regular hot drink at AlkiraBiz Cafe once a week during first term.
Bring three friends and also get Reduced Fees: Services incur a daily site provision fee which is an out-of-pocket expense. This fee will be waived for first term, which can be up to $115 in value.
Bring four or more friends and also get a free exclusive Momentum hoodie.
Offer ends on 27 November 2026.
To get the most out of the Momentum Program, make sure you apply directly through Alkira. By enrolling this way, you’ll be part of a supported group setting and receive in-class support from our dedicated team throughout your course. We’ll work alongside you, Box Hill Institute, and your support network to help you stay on track and build skills with confidence.
Alkira begins intake for Momentum every April for the following year. We recommend submitting your application by October to allow time for planning and assessment. Please note that Alkira only provides support to adults with intellectual and other disabilities, so applicants must be 18 years or older at the time services commence. While you can apply earlier, services cannot begin until you are 18. Applicants must also be under 25 years of age at the time of application.
Getting in touch is easy. You can fill out our online enquiry form, and one of our friendly staff will contact you. Alternatively, feel free to call us Monday to Friday, between 9:00am and 5:00pm, to speak with a member of our team directly.
We know choosing the right support after school is a big decision, and we’re here to help guide you through the process.
To begin, we invite you and your family to see all that Box Hill Institute has to offer. This is a great opportunity to see the Momentum program in action, meet our staff, and ask any questions you may have.
If you’re interested in taking the next step, we’ll arrange a face-to-face meeting with Amelia and our Coordinators. During this meeting, we’ll help determine if Alkira is the right fit for your goals and walk you through the necessary process to get started.

There are two types of costs:
Momentum has supported many students to achieve meaningful and lasting outcomes. Past students have:
Throughout the program, students gain confidence, independence, and important life skills. For many, this has led to milestones such as obtaining a driver’s license, securing their first job, and gaining more independence.
Momentum typically runs five days per week, with:
We provide a 1:3 support ratio both in the classroom and in group settings. For example, if there are 9 students in a TAFE class, there will be 1 Tafe Teacher and 3 Alkira support staff present to assist with learning and engagement. This ensures personalised, high-quality, safe support that enables students to participate fully and confidently.
