NDIS SIL Reform: What You Need to Know Before July 2026

What the reform means

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is entering a new phase of reform aimed at strengthening safeguards, improving consistency, and ensuring people receive high‑quality Supported Independent Living (SIL) supports.

In December 2025, the Government confirmed that from 1 July 2026, only registered NDIS providers will be able to deliver SIL services.

At Alkira, we are already a registered provider, which means people accessing our SIL supports will be unaffected by these changes. And because we’ve weathered many sector reforms over the past 70 years, we understand how uncertain change can feel and we know how important clear information and a calm, steady approach can be during this time. As a not‑for‑profit organisation, our goal is to provide clarity, reassurance and practical options, particularly for people currently receiving SIL supports from non‑registered services, so no one feels unprepared during this transition.

What’s Changing in SIL?

SIL providers will now be required to be fully registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

Registration means meeting the NDIS Practice Standards and completing a formal, independent audit. Many providers are already registered but some aren’t, and not all will be ready or willing to complete the process before the deadline.

We’re here to support a smooth transition and ensure continuity of services for participants. The SIL reforms aim to make the NDIS safer, fairer and more consistent. And with the right planning the transition can be smooth.
