We are proud to recognise and thank the Rotary Club of Box Hill Central, Rotary Club of Mont Albert and Surrey Hills (MASH), and Rotary Club of Box Hill Burwood for their ongoing commitment to inclusion, independence, and community wellbeing.
In 2019, MASH made a transformative difference to one of our shared supported accommodation homes through a much-needed renovation. The 1970s-style home was refreshed with new flooring, kitchen and laundry updates, and a full repaint—turning it into a more modern, practical, and welcoming space for its five permanent residents.
Importantly, residents were actively involved in design choices—from feature walls to shared living space colours—bringing a sense of ownership and pride to their home. Thanks to MASH, what was once an outdated house is now a warm and inviting place that truly feels like home.
This Club has been instrumental in supporting programs that build independence and promote mental wellness. In 2018, their funding helped launch Do You Want to Be a Master Chef? — a cooking program led by a qualified chef. Participants plan and cook two-course meals each week while learning vital life skills such as budgeting, shopping, kitchen hygiene, and food safety. The program also fosters confidence and social connection, with plans to expand into food growing and sustainable cooking in the future.
In 2020, Box Hill Central Rotary also funded staff wellness and mindfulness training at our Springfield Community Hub. The training continues to benefit participants daily through a tailored wellness program that helps reduce anxiety and improve emotional regulation. This generous support has had a lasting impact on both staff and participants.
Box Hill Burwood Rotary has been a longtime supporter of Alkira, including contributing financially to the development of our Springfield Community Hub—our largest and most ambitious project to date. In 2022, they also provided funding for a security alarm system upgrade and a new defibrillator for our supported accommodation homes, helping us keep residents and staff safe.
