The Participant Committee recently welcomed a special visitor, Liz from Ambulance Victoria, for an important and hands-on learning session.
Liz introduced the group to the Chain of Survival, which outlines the six vital steps in responding to a medical emergency:
- Recognise – Know when something is wrong
- Call 000 – Call for help
- Push – Do CPR
- Shock – Use a defibrillator (AED)
- Ambulance – Paramedics come to help
- Hospital – Go to hospital for care
Through an interactive session, participants learned:
- When to call an ambulance
- Who to call if it’s not an emergency
- How to perform CPR using test kits
- How to use a defibrillator (AED) on a mannequin’
- Where to find an AED in the community
The session was practical, engaging, and gave everyone the chance to build confidence in emergency response. Liz also took time to answer lots of questions from the group, making sure everyone left with a stronger understanding of how to help in an emergency.
One of the highlights was seeing participants work hard using the CPR kits, practicing chest compressions and learning the correct techniques step by step.
This visit was not only educational but also empowering, giving participants the knowledge and skills that could one day make a real difference in someone’s life.
We thank Liz and Ambulance Victoria for taking the time to share this important training with our Participant Committee.
