A Magnificent Momentum Milestone

Momentum student Jaydern has recently reached a significant milestone in his journey towards independence.

As a first-year student in the Momentum program, Jaydern is currently completing a Certificate I in Transition Education, building foundational skills for adult life and future opportunities. Jaydern has transitioned directly from graduating Year 12 into the Momentum program.

Over a short period of time, Jaydern has successfully developed the skills to travel independently to and from Box Hill Institute’s Nelson Road Campus. Through a structured and supportive approach, he progressed from travelling with parent and staff shadowing to confidently completing the journey on his own. This included learning to read timetables, use electronic boards and navigate transport routes with confidence.

A standout moment in this journey was when Jaydern successfully managed a bus replacement service, demonstrating a deeper level of understanding and adaptability. While commuting can often become routine, navigating unexpected changes requires increased problem-solving skills and confidence. This achievement highlights just how far Jaydern has come in building his independence.

Jaydern now travels independently to campus every day that he attends Momentum, showing strong capability, growing confidence and readiness to engage more fully in his community. These skills will support his long-term goals around community access, social participation and employment pathways.
